We have a Guest Writer today! Angelina Lawson comes to us from “across the pond” with The Lion King review and how you can get tickets to this wonderful adventure for your family.

This Disney original is an animated story about a head strong lion cub turned lion king, it is the highest grossing hand drawn film in history. It made its debut on the big screen in 1994. The musical adaptation of the “The Lion King” first appeared in London at the Lyceum Theatre in 1999 and still continues to run there 13 years later. The adaptation of this movie to theatre production has been much to the delight of people of all ages.

Audiences watch in awe as the actors are able to transform themselves into graceful gazelles, enormous elephants and a mischievous meerkat named Timon. The costumes boast rich colours and elaborate details which combine to create the realistic nature of the attire. The stage sets are skilfully crafted to enhance the scenes and provide the perfect backdrops for the exciting scenes in the foreground. However, throughout the production, the action takes place not just on the centre stage, but all throughout the venue. All of the visually stimulating activity causes the little ones to have smiles as wide as their eyes.

Alongside the 360 degrees of visual action, the singing and musical accompaniments provide a surround sound of auditory pleasantries to create a fantastic atmosphere for adults and children alike. The cast vocals are rich and melodious and the orchestra is dramatic but not overbearing. Children can be heard singing along with Lion King favourites such as “Hakuna Matata” and “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King”.

In addition to the musical and performing excellence, the story itself has a good take home message about growing up that even the young ones can understand. It also has lovable characters that children try to imitate as they exit the theatres. Some children are even accompanied into the theatre by their miniature Simbas, Nalas, Timons and Pumbas. Your child is bound to be enthralled by this masterpiece.

Buying a ticket to see this theatre masterpiece is like purchasing a passport to a musical African safari. This stage play is an experience in sight, sound and human emotion.

If you are looking for family friendly outing that will be delightfully entertaining to the kids as well as those who are kids at heart, then a trip to the London theatre to see “The Lion King” is your ticket to family enjoyment.
